The area of Portes du Soleil in the summer time is one of the most beautiful places to visit in the French Alps. In the summer, with the high temperatures and its relaxed and fun atmosphere, it really is the perfect location for a summer holiday whatever you decide to do.

Situated just 30km’s south of Lake Geneva, the valley is a wonderful mix of mountains and water. It is the perfect base offering a whole range of different activities and places to visit.

The Abondance Valley has three main villages, which have all retained their traditional alpine charm: Abondance, La Chapelle d’Abondance and Chatel. There are over 40 working farms in the valley, some of which you can visit to see how they make their famous local Abondance cheese. Each village has a local market on different days during the week that are definitely worth a visit. In addition to this, there are many cafés, restaurants and shops to visit in all of the villages.

Abondance is very famous for its Abbey, which is considered one of the most famous monasteries in the Alps.

La Chapelle d’Abondance is perfectly located to climb Les Cornettes de Bises or Mont de Grange, the national park, where you will discover mountain lakes, beautiful alpine flora and local wildlife.

The village of Chatel boasts a swimming pool, tennis courts, a pitch and putt golf course, a summer luge and a whole range of other activities including horse riding and paragliding.

The ski lifts open in mid-June to mid-Sept and provide an opening to over 800km’s of walking trails and paths and more extreme activities like mountain biking and the zip wire called the fantasticable! Alternatively, you may wish to follow more leisurely pursuits and simply relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

During the summer time, we offer a bespoke service to follow your holiday requirements no matter what you want to do.
